I have just received this from Nathan Masyuko, the Executive Director of World Cyber Game Kenya. This goes out to all Kenyan Gamers. I know many young Kenyans love gaming and the below is the platform to showcase just how good you are.
The World Cyber Games (WCG) is an annual global tournament that pools e-sportsmen, industry leaders and technology experts in the computer and video gaming industry. The participants do not only get to compete but also to share ideas on the future of e-sports and its cultural relevance in society.
This worldwide youth festival was inaugurated in 2000 and is held annually in pre-selected host countries. WCG is the only e-sports event that brings together nearly 1,000,000 competitors from all continents making it the largest cyber-gaming event worldwide. It is serving what is now rapidly becoming the biggest alternative sports market on the planet.
The event is conducted in over 70 countries worldwide where the best from each country meets to compete for the title of world’s champion, in different video game titles.
Last year, through the efforts of NexGen Ltd., Kenya managed to participate in this event for the first time ever, making it the 5th African country to do so. We conducted two local tournaments last year and the Kenya National Finals were held at the Village Market in November of 2009. We then fielded a team that flew to compete in China with representatives from 65 other countries.
This year, we are once again looking to field the best gamers to go and compete in L.A. for the 10th Anniversary Grand Finals to be held there.
We are organizing our first tournament to be held at the iHub, located at the Bishop Magua building directly opposite Uchumi Hyper on Ngong Road. The tournament will be held on the 26th of June 2010 and will run from 10am to 6pm.
We have partnered with Mustek East Africa who will be providing the gaming computers to be used during the event. D-Link will provide prizes.
If you love games, technology or just having a good time this is the place to be.
Charges are 500/- for competitors and 250/- for spectators.
I look forward to seeing you there.
