Who are Sandstorm Kenya?

Sandstorm Kenya are the most exciting Kenyan brand you’ve (probably) never heard of: actors (like Robert Pattinson), politicians (like Bill Clinton), sportsmen (like Jack Nicklaus) and royalty (who we can’t name) all love our stuff.

We make beautiful bags and accessories just outside Nairobi, to the same exacting specification as the luxury safari tents that first made our name: each one crafted carefully, individually and ethically from the finest materials. This year we were selected by the BAFTAs (Britain’s Oscars) to be the bag given to all of the award nominees.

Originally known only to people in Kenya who visited our shops in Nairobi and at the Coast, our popularity is now growing internationally amongst a discerning audience who prefer Sandstorm’s natural look and feel.

Why are we looking for an Online Marketing Do-er?

As an international Kenyan luxury brand we already sell online in the UK, Europe and the United States and we’ll start selling in Kenya soon. We like to think that we’re good at what we do, but we’re also humble enough to recognise when we could and should be doing things much better, and online marketing is one of those things.

We therefore seek a highly motivated individual with experience and expertise in online marketing. An ‘Online Marketing Manager’ would be a more conventional title, but we want someone who can do more than just manage, we want someone with passion who will make things happen, who will get things done… we want a Do-er.

Working with the Managing Director and supported by the Online Customer Services Manager, you will play a central role in the development and implementation of online marketing strategies in Kenya and internationally.

Qualifications

You should have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, advertising, marketing, communication, journalism, sociology, IT, Mass Communication or Public Relations.

The ideal candidates must have a digital footprint and must also demonstrate some critical competencies in online marketing as highlighted below.

Competencies

  1. You must demonstrate ability to map out a marketing strategy and then drive that strategy proven by testing and metrics.
  2. You must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to crank editorial and technical writing output.
  3. You must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office products and proficiency in graphic design (adobe illustrator/Photoshop) will be an added advantage.
  4. You must understand the social media universe including Blogs, YouTube, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Digg, Reddit, Flickr, Forums, Twitter, Wikis, etc… and creatively work with a variety of these social media to promote brand recognition.
  5. You must be able to create comprehensive strategies using online media, as well as able to create website content and optimize it to ensure both search engine visibility and page ranking.
  6. Ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to the analytical side: able to demonstrate why ideas are analytically sound
  7. You will also be responsible for regular e-newsletter creation and distribution, as well as devising appropriate mechanics for the collection of email addresses
  8. Knowledge of search engine optimization, search engine rankings, copywriting, creative writing and keyword optimization and develop content creation strategies.
  9. You must be able to track and monitor site traffic and optimize campaigns based on the best-performing strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Increase online sales of Sandstorm Kenya bags in line with agreed targets.
  2. Increase traffic to the website and blog through implementation of online marketing strategies.
  3. Consistently create and distribute content geared at building Sandstorm Kenya Brand.
  4. Identify threats and opportunities in user generated content surrounding our brand by monitoring mentions of the brand online and responding accordingly.
  5. Officially speak on behalf of the brand whenever and wherever it is mentioned online.
  6. Schedule and organize multiple departments which generate content on a daily basis
  7. Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising the social media campaigns.
  8. Build a global community around the Sandstorm Kenya Brand.
  9. Create and update daily, weekly and monthly reports
